Summer Project: Coursework Planning

1) Research: TV crime drama extract analysis

 Breaking Bad - Editing

We already know, a lot of footage is shot while creating videos and some may be short some may be long. Timing is critical for editing in order to create a smooth changes between the explosion and the character walking out, which then switches from the side to the front of the character, creating the perfect eyeliner match between the audience and the view behind the character. It is critical to cut through all of the shot footage and choose the best footage to include in the final production. Breaking Bad in this clip employed editing to control the story's speed. The clips would frequently use slow and methodical editing to create tension, allowing viewers to feel the weight of the characters' decisions and actions. Rapid editing, on the other hand, was used to heighten the drama during strong action sequences or moments of crisis.

Top Boy - Mise-En-Scene

The dress choices of the characters reflect their personalities, roles, and social status. The costumes help viewers learn the characters' motivations and problems, from the classy garments of drug dealers wanting to portray power and success to the more regular clothing of people just trying to live normally. Shot framing and composition are carefully examined in order to convey information and emotions in the clip. Close-ups are employed to emphasise the intensity of the characters' emotions in the clip, while broad shots of the estate emphasise the sense of community and solitude. Also included in the video is While not technically mise en scenee, sound is frequently integrated with the clip. The soundtrack, which includes music and ambient noise, compliments the visual aspects and gives depth to the narrative.

Peaky Blinders - Narrative & Genre

The historical context is essential to the story, which is set in post-World War I Birmingham. It delves into the era's social and political instability, including the impact of war, the emergence of organised crime, and the difficulties faced by returning soldiers. By setting the plot in the aftermath of World War I, Peaky Blinders incorporates aspects of historical drama. It delves into the societal changes and hardships that England faced during this time period, as well as the impact of war on individuals and communities. In some clips, the series mixes themes of political problems and intelligence. This deepens the plot and investigates the connection of crime and politics.Peaky Blinders is a crime drama that also covers family issues using narrative and genre within the Shelby household. The story explores the details of sibling rivalry, parental relationships, and the impact of the family's illicit lifestyle on their personal lives.

The Shield - Camerawork

High-angle photos show weakness and impotence, whereas low-angle shots show dominance and authority. The Shield carefully use these views to highlight the power dynamics at work inside the precinct and in various character relationships. Tracking shots are employed to follow characters around a police station, the streets of Los Angeles, or crime scenes. These images contribute to the show's world's topography and add a dynamic visual element, particularly in sequences with a lot of movement. Close-up views are regularly used in the clips to show the characters' feelings and reactions. The close framing highlights the impact of critical moments. The video include long, uninterrupted takes that follow people through close sequences on occasion. These pictures are utilised to create tension while still maintaining a feeling of nopt being fake. They necessitate careful choreography and are especially effective during dialogue-heavy sequences or high-stakes moments.

Never Have I Ever - Makeup & Props

Props such as traditional Indian goods such as religious objects, idols, and food are used to correctly reflect cultural events and celebrations. This gives a realistic feel to the story, allowing viewers to better grasp the cultural backgrounds of the characters. Makeup and props are frequently used to change the outfits and wardrobes of the characters. Devi's makeup matches her clothing, resulting in a understanding and visually pleasing appearance for the character. Makeup and props are essential in establishing period-appropriate looks for flashback scenes that delve into the characters' pasts. They help in moving viewers to various time periods and providing context for character change. Makeup and props are occasionally used for extraordinary effects or transformations. This could include applying makeup to certain situations or characters to create scars, wounds, or ageing effects.

Prison Break - Sound

Popular songs and soundtrack selections from Prison Break connect with the characters and situations. These songs were deliberately picked to match the narrative and highlight the deep meaning of the characters' travel. 3) Statement of Intent

Stiches Of Deceit is an engrossing and fascinating criminal thriller that digs into the mystery surrounding the death of Ant Russio Diaz, a prominent apparel designer at the top of his field and profession. The show, highlights the sheer level competition in the fashion industry, and the show attempts to capture fans with a gripping narrative that mixes together elements of suspense, intrigue, and human drama that should always leave you wondering what happens next. In my three minute extract i plan to use dull backgrounds and surroundings which really make you pay attention to the characters on screen. This would help the audience stay focused on the constantly changing plot which would be very beneficial for a viewers as it keeps there retention rate as the show would feel very refreshing. As related to Vladimir Propp's character theory where there will be a confused hero and killer/villain. This would make the show so interested because at first the blamed is put on the wrong person as they where framed, which means the killer is still on the lose throughout the show without the audience knowing until they make a fatal error. With our use of compelling interesting characters it easily makes the Tv crime drama very identifiable from first glance. We constructed a wide group of characters, each with unique motivations and secrets of their own which is the reason the fashion industry is filled with so much secrecy. The characters help into the narrative with their unique experiences and struggles, ranging from the ambitious proved designer with a hidden past suddenly gets murdered which seems unprovoked to all bystanders. The use of sound would also be key from the production and editing of my three minute extract as the dialogue will be carefully chosen to reveal character traits, there actions, and secrets. It will also be used to express the inflexible nature of the fashion industry, making it accessible to both fashion fans and people unfamiliar with the industry, which would it related to a large chunk of the shows audience. The use of Silence is just as strong as sounds, especially in Stiches of Deceit because it corresponds to the title's meaning. It can also be used to build tension and suspense because it would make the viewer unconformable.  such as when a Jude decides to confront a Mya who was framed for the killing of Ant or when a terrible fact is revealed. The show also reverts sexist old fashion views as they recognise that race, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status all have an impact on women's experiences especially in the fashion industry which is perfectly highlighted. Mya Russio is typically someone who doesn't not fit the normal description of someone in the fashion business but yet still having an important role in the show. It highlights her to her talents, confidence, and unique flair are included to challenge conventional beauty standards. Which heavily subverts Van Zoonen's theory that says women are limited to secondary roles.
